Bicycle Brides

I was flicking through a wedding magazine last week , only to find 3 photos of ladies on bikes, this one being my favourite of Bride and Groom with the beautiful pink Pashley Poppy. I am getting married in April and as a proud owner of a blue Pashley Poppy, (the perfect wedding bike if such a thing exists!) I am currently trying to work out as which point in the day we can jump on our bikes. I think cycling to the wedding could be dangerous as may be too nervous and cycling home afterwards is definitely not a good idea as we will have had a few drinkees, so I'm thinking we should cycle to the reception, after the ceremony. It may not be the most practical way to travel in a rather delicate vintage wedding dress but it will be fun.
I've found some great photos of like minded couples who have saddled up for the big day on great blog Green Wedding Shoes

Has anyone else pedaled their way to marital bliss?

I don't know anyone on conventional bikes but knew someone who went on a tandem trike under an archway of bicycle wheels and another pair who cycled to the reception on a TRICE recumbent tandem! Cool!

My husband and I rode around the block on our tandem bike after our ceremony. I found it difficult to go much further in a long dress, but it was a blast! People stopped on the street to cheer and clap as we went past.

Hi Anne, Wow! a Tandem trike under an archway of bicycle wheels sounds fantastic. I did think about doing a tandem but knowing my fiance, I would end up doing all the work!

Hi Christy - that sounds great. I think we will do something similar, a short ride round the block or through the park. And so nice that people clapped and cheered! x

Perfect idea on your wedding...so cute, maybe you could borrow one of those bikes that was specially made for deliveries then you could sit very neatly in a wicker basket on the front in your white dress...for where ever you want to ride to...vintage wedding dress, beautiful choice. Congratulations! x

Here in Portland, I've also been to a couple of friends' bicycle weddings where they married, not a person, but... their bicycles!

Elicia married her blue bike -

We did!!

To combat getting the 15 foot train of the wedding dress I made stuck in the wheel I built a bicycle bustle - It was basically ribbons that looped the entire skirt up and out of the way of the bike. it could totally be added to any other ready made dress. I depended on the slip and little shorts for coverage during the ride...
